Parents, 2 kids killed in Grand Prairie crash caused by street racing, police say

Grand Prairie police suspect street racing caused a fiery car collision that killed four family members Saturday.
Two men were arrested in connection to the crash, police said.
A family of five was traveling north on South Belt Line Road around 8:15 p.m. Saturday. When the family’s Chevy Traverse turned left onto Kingston Drive, it collided with a red Dodge Charger driven by Jaime Mesa, 20, of Irving, according to a statement from police.
The Traverse was engulfed in flames, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported.

Three people in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. One family member died at the hospital, and another was in critical condition Sunday, according to a statement by police.
NBC5 reported that the five passengers were members of the Rosales family. Parents Jessie and Lorena Rosales, Stephanie, 13, and Angel, 6, died in the crash, the station reported. The family’s 16-year-old son remains in the hospital, according to the station.
The identities of the victims have not been released by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Mesa was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He remained there under police custody as of late Sunday.
Police suspect Mesa was racing Anthony Morales, 22, who was driving a white Dodge Charger Daytona that fled the scene after the crash, according to the statement.
Mesa faces four counts of racing on a highway and causing death, four counts of manslaughter, one count of racing on a highway and causing serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

A GoFundMe organized for the Rosales family had reached $20,000 of a $50,000 goal Monday night.
The post noted that donations will go toward the teen’s medical expenses and the burials for the other family. The teenager in critical condition has two siblings who were not in the crash Saturday, according to the GoFundMe post.
“This sweet sibling group has a long hard road ahead of them physically, emotionally and financially,” the post reads.
