Actress Reese Witherspoon has new details about Big Little Lies Season 3.
The Hollywood star and her co-star Nicole Kidman have been “waiting” for new material from the book series’ author Liane Moriarty, she told E! News.
“We’re in waiting for Liane Moriarty. She’s going to be turning in something very soon,” Witherspoon, 48, said on the red carpet of her media company Hello Sunshine’s second annual Shine Away conference on Saturday.
“We’re back to the original author, and we’re going to go back to the original characters.”
She added: “It’s exciting, too, because I think the kids are probably a little bit older now. So that might add another element. I don’t know yet, I haven’t read it yet.”
The co-stars previously confirmed a third season of the Emmy-winning HBO drama series is in the works.
In November, Kidman, 57, mentioned another season was happening during a Q&A and later told Variety she and Witherspoon are “texting every day” about it, as they are both producers.
“There’s a timeline and we’re doing it,” she added.
During a Vanity Fair conversation in June, Kidman confirmed Season 3 is moving “fast and furious” but chided her own eagerness to talk about the new season.
“We need to shut up,” Kidman said. “There’s this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you’ve done it.
“If you talk about doing it, it’s the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you’ve done it.”
Big Little Lies Season 1 debuted in 2017 and centered on a mysterious murder and the group of women involved in the investigation.

Witherspoon and Kidman co-starred with Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz and Laura Dern.
Big Little Lies was initially billed as a one-season story and won the Emmy for best limited series.
However, the show returned in 2019, this time with Meryl Streep, for a second season depicting the aftermath of the murder.
Dern and Woodley have both said they hope a third season happens.
“We love each other so much and would have the time of our life being back together, and we love our characters so much,” Dern told Entertainment Weekly in February.
In a 2017 interview with Vogue, Witherspoon spoke about what drew her to Moriarty’s book.
She explained: “I thought the book was really well plotted. I loved all the characters, I thought they were really dynamic women and very truthful in their struggles and the way that they communicated with each other.
“I thought it was a unique opportunity to have five really talented, diverse women on screen together, which is something that doesn’t happen that often.”
Speaking on whether she always wanted to play Madeline, the actress said: “I didn’t know who I was going to play. Nicole [Kidman] really wanted to play Celeste, but I don’t know, I thought for a minute I might have played Renata.
“But then I was in a meeting with David Kelley and Nicole and I said I didn’t know who I was going to play and they looked at me like I was crazy.
“They said, ‘You’re Madeline!’ And I said, ‘I am? What do you mean?’ And they were like, ‘You are very clearly Madeline.’ And I thought, ‘Is this an insult? I don’t know.’
“But then I kind of started thinking how I would do this. I started talking to Nicole, she was very helpful when I was creating the character. We added a lot of stuff that wasn’t in the book.”
